The plum trees are blooming, purple henbit is popping up across the yard, and everyone's sneezing. It's finally spring! As promised, I'm writing to keep you updated on our plans for Red Thread Farm this year. You may want to sit down for this one.
The past 18 months have been life-altering for our family. There's nothing quite like a major health event to trigger a re-evaluation of your priorities. Amy and I have been going through that process and have made the agonizing decision to list our home and farm for sale. We're stepping out into a sea of uncertainty, but we feel confident that this is the right decision for our family. We'd like to downsize our responsibilities, travel more, and be freely available to support the kids as they transition to college in the near future.
What does this mean for RTF?
The real estate market is anything but predictable and we're not in a big hurry, so we could be here a while longer. That said, it doesn't make sense to proceed with growing our normal volume of vegetables given the uncertainty ahead. I'll continue gardening (because I just can't help myself), just on a significantly smaller scale. As the season progresses, I know there will be vegetables to share and we're thinking about creative ways to market them. There are no plans for a regular farm store schedule or online ordering going forward. When we built Red Thread Farm over a decade ago, we set out to create a beautiful life for our family and to teach our kids about the values we cherish. We never envisioned how our little vegetable farm would blossom into an entire community of friends. Thank you for being part of our RTF family.
