Fall has always been my favorite gardening season! There's nothing quite as satisfying as enjoying fresh greens and vegetables after a long, hot summer has ended. Sadly, most home gardens go dormant when the autumn leaves begin to fall. Many gardeners don't understand how to "plan backwards" to take advantage of this ideal time to grow some of the most popular cool season crops like lettuce, kale, broccoli, radishes, and herbs.
In this small group workshop you'll learn how to extend your garden into fall with instruction taking place in the gardens at Red Thread Farm. Learn about my proven techniques for fall growing and see exactly how we do it. Topics include:
- Tips for planting crops to ensure success during the late summer heat
- Planting timelines to get plants to maturity with declining daylight hours
- Soil conditioning and fertilizer recommendations
- Tips to manage weeds and ensure consistent irrigation
- Techniques to control the most common fall insect pests
You'll take away resources including a planting calendar for some of the most popular fall crops, the RTF fertilizer recipe, and recommendations for fall gardening tools, seeds, and resources.
When: Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am (2 hours)
Where: Red Thread Farm, 5561 Parker Branch Rd., Franklin, Tennessee
Cost: $99.00 per person ($25 non-refundable deposit due at registration and remaining $74.00 due by August 8th.)
Who should attend?
- This workshop is for anyone who wants to have success with a fall garden in our growing zone. However, gardeners with at least one year of experience and some gardening knowledge will benefit the most as we will not be covering beginner basics.
- Experienced gardeners - even those with two green thumbs - will find value in this workshop if they are new to fall growing or if late season gardening has been a challenge in the past.
The fine print:
- The deposit is non-refundable, but you can transfer to another person. We will invoice you for the remaining balance two weeks before the class and full payment is due by August 8, 2026.
- Class size is limited to 15 people. If we do not receive a sufficient number of registrations, we reserve the right to cancel the workshop. In such case, you will be issued a full refund back to the original method of payment.
- It's possible that the workshop might be rescheduled for factors such as inclement weather. Should the workshop be rescheduled, you will have the choice of a full refund or the option to move to a rescheduled date.
